Yes! It is possible to have fun at Spring Break in Fort Lauderdale this year and stay safe at the same time. Nothing will ruin your spring break faster than getting yourself in a bad situation, hanging out at the wrong place with the wrong people, or not knowing what is permitted and what isn’t on the beach, on the street or in the bars and clubs. As a Rideshare driver (Uber) in South Florida for three Spring Break’s now, I’ve seen it all – the good, the bad, the ugly, and the illegal. Below are my top 5 ways to stay safe during Spring Break ’26 in Fort Lauderdale.

1. Safest Areas to Stay in Fort Lauderdale

Where you stay in Fort Lauderdale is the first, and easiest, way to start your Spring Break ’26 off safely. Anywhere on Fort Lauderdale Beach (between the ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway), whether a hotel, AirBnB, or a home (if your rich or lucky), is generally going to be a safe place to stay. Well patrolled by police, most hotels, bars and restaurants have security staff, and your always going to be “close to home.” This goes the same for any of the small beach towns north of Fort Lauderdale Beach like Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Pompano Beach and Deerfield Beach. Staying anywhere on the beachside is going to be a safe option.

Your next safest option is staying in downtown Fort Lauderdale and anywhere East of US1. These are high tourist areas, generally well patrolled by police and close to everything. Neighborhoods like Las Olas, Victoria Park, and Rio Vista are very safe options, as well as most hotels and Airbnb’s in downtown and east of US1.

Neighborhoods west of US1, from Fort Lauderdale to Deerfield Beach, progressively get more “sketchy.” Not that you can’t find cheaper, nice places to stay, you will just want to be more careful and “safety” vigilant in these areas.

2. Safest Ways to Get There and Back

This is one of the easiest ways to stay safe during Fort Lauderdale Spring Break. No matter where your going, use a rideshare service like Uber and Lyft. Uber should be your preference if possible. Generally, I find Uber has better drivers in newer, safer cars in south Florida, especially with the Comfort and Premier options. These are more expensive options, but well worth it when it comes to overall comfort and safety.

Things you always want to do before getting into any rideshare service car: 1) Always check and match the license plate of the car to the car shown on your app. 2) Always ask the driver who they are picking up. The driver should either already know your name or be able to find it quickly and speak it to you. 3) Choose the “Pin Code” option on your rideshare app. The driver will not be able to initiate the ride until they put in the code on your app. 4) If you are “English Only” speaking, verify the driver can speak English. This will ensure they are able to read all street signs and understand any directions or ride changes from you.

One thing to NEVER do while at Spring Break ’26: NEVER, EVER take a “private” ride from someone you do not know. You do not know if they are a vetted, background checked, and licensed “Chauffer” in the state of Florida, nor if they have the necessary insurance to drive others in their car. Apart from the danger of not knowing who your driver is, should anything happen like an accident, regardless of fault, you may not be covered under the drivers insurance.

One last word of warning here: Golf Cart rides can be fast and fun. Some of the drivers have karaoke on board and are entertaining to say the least. However, I have no idea if they are registered “Chauffer” businesses with the state of Florida, nor what government agency regulates them, if any. I have no idea if they carry business and commercial auto insurance to cover you in an accident. And, most worryingly, I have seen wheels fall of them as they were driving in front of me. You would be wise to avoid them.
